Tinsley back to Victoria Keys (Blonk Street)

Section 2 of this guide takes you back from the Tinsley Viaduct and the busy Meadowhall shopping centre to Sheffield centre and the Victoria Quays

This section of the trip is suitable for paddlers of all ages and ability, the canal offers the opportunity to paddle at your leisure and with the knowledge that there are no weirs or obstacles where you can come to grief

A great place to start, behind Sheffield Hallam Arena

The trip back starts with a lock to portage after about 200 metres the canal then heads towards the famous Tinsley flight 3 locks in succession making it a lengthy portage, wheels would come in useful here to pull open canoes up the tow path

After getting back on at the top lock its all easy paddling, 200 metres on you arrive at the Sheffield arena and centretainment, ample parking here on the canal side if you wish to make this the start of your journey and its only a short walk down to Burger king and a KFC if you hungry

Sheffield Hallam Arena

A nice easy paddle

Its around a 3/4 mile paddle right into the Victoria Quays from the top lock at Tinsley, the scenery is ever changing from industrial units to canal side woodland, many bridges criss cross the canal at regular intervals making getting on and off the canal easy, the tram also runs along the canal and makes it easy to run shuttles if you

Arriving at the quays and ready for a drink and a bite to eat, many of the old railway arches that used to provide a link from the canal basin to the rail network have been renovated and are now either posh bars or elegant cafes and shops, its a nice way to end a days paddling.
